Bird Walk

In an attempt to keep our whole family active, Hubbs suggested a trip to the Wharf to enjoy the Bird Walk.

Every day we make small (sometimes unrecognizable) changes to our activity levels and eating habits with ulterior motives. Of course, one day in the near future we might have an All Star Canuck on our hands, but the only way to achieve such a goal is to ensure a love of activity (and fruits and veggies).
On Wednesday afternoon we headed down to do the walk in the smoky sunshine. I lathered up Monster in sunscreen, packed all the essential baby items, and extra water for our pug-kid Lola.

(Note: It is not recommended that parents use sunscreen on an infant under the age of 6 months, however I personally take that risk because I feel sunscreen has to be less dangerous and painful then a sunburn. Also, Thank you to careless people, and Mother Nature for making my province an ashtray. AGAIN.)

Unfortunately, besides from the benefits of fresh air, our attempts to make Monster appreciate the outdoors and the wilderness around us were fruitless... He almost immediately fell asleep, which, I can't blame him. Apparently bumpy rides are soothing.

Our first born Lola is a pug and pugs aren't necessarily built for summer exercise because by the time we were walking back to the truck it sounded like we were surrounded by several panting dogs. Not just the one. She is incredibly passive, and lazy so she was totally Ok with being carted around in the bottom of the stroller in order to rest and cool off.

The walk didn't take only (maybe an hour) but I was certainly drenched in sweat when we were finished.

Compressed Shift

I have a ton of catching up to do....

On Friday (th 13th) Hubbs found out that he'd be stuck working the compressed shift. For anyone who doesn't know what that means, it's three 10 hour shifts in two days. He normally works the swing shift, this treat was on account of his level 3 First Aid.

Since Hubbs got his level 3 First Aid, he's been flopped around to various shifts. It's been interesting, to say the least.

He usually dreads it, when they foreman's walk over, announcing his need to give up his weekends. I on the other hand, have different feels regarding this shift. Yes Hubbs is almost a ghost for 3 days because he's either at work, or sleeping for the 7 hours between each shifts but in return he gets 7 glorious days off afterwards.

All the hard work, and super suckiness pays off in my books. It's almost a paid vacation in the middle of the summer to enjoy time at home with your wife and Monster. Doing the shift once and awhile might just be a blessing in disguise. Don't tell him I said that.

Baby Butt

Just a quick post..

Hubbs, Monster and I are at the Interior Health Authority Armstrong branch with my mother-in-law waiting for her eye appointment. After searching the health pamphlets and papers, reading every word this building has of health info I am now officially bored.

Monster is happily playing with daddy on his lap, when I noticed the cutest thing! My question is, how the heck does baby butt crack happen with a Pampers diaper on?!

Mind boggling, yet absolutely adorable. It's been a busy day, so I have plenty of pictures and posts to come!

Shopping Day pt: Two

You'd think after a full day of shopping and traveling a 5 month old would be exhausted right? Not mine.

When Monster gets bored of the same four walls and old toys in our house the best way to stop the fuss and whine is to take him somewhere. Which is exactly what we did.

A local (super awesome) specialty baby store in our town is currently having a moving sale; meaning everything is at least 50% off (Thank you Baby Barn!) so the Hubbs and I finally made our way down to check it out today.

Most of the store had already been picked through, but we did find a couple gems!

This adorable Red Rooster shirt was originally $19.99 (which I think is ludicrious for a shirt Monster would only be able to wear a few times before his Monsterous self grows out of the darn thing) but we got it for $5. I think it's overflowing with cuteness and it reminds me of an old sailor tattoo.

Anyone who knows Hubbs knows he's a pretty huge dork. Along with his insane obsession for anything cinema and game related he's also a major comment book nerd. My child is doomed! Anyways, we found some Spiderman wall stickies for Monsters bedroom!

The best thing about them is you can move then whenever, and thy won't peel your paint. So cute! Today was certainly a good shopping day!

Baby Model and Shopping Adventures

This mommy just can't get enough cute baby clothes for her little man!

Today was yet another shopping day for my Monster and I, just this time replace auntie TG with my mom. We headed out to Vernon for an appointment and then cruised Walmart and Superstore.

It doesn't matter if I have money to spend or if I'm looking for anything specific we always have to check out the baby section of every store. At the Superstore we found the cutest little beanie hat for Monster to model.

He is such happy little shopper. We didn't buy the hat because it was already a tight fit, but modeling is almost as fun... Right? Grandma did buy him a couple new pajam-jam sets and an adorable outfit though.

Here is my little trooper in the Walmart cart checking out the new toy grandma picked out for him. My mom (who is a first time grandparent by the way) and I were in awe of the toy section today. I dread the time Christmas shopping rolls around, because her and I may go bankrupt just shopping for my Monster!

(Please note his absolutely adorable outfit. Cherokee polo and jeans both on sale $5 a piece at Zellers)

A Visual

I recently took a photo for you all, as a visualization of the Monster-esque son I love so dearly.

In this photo you will find a grandma with her grandbaby boys, gleaming with love. To the right you will see my son, my Monster who is just over 5 months now.

On the left you will see my dear nephew. My nephew will be two in two weeks. One day, not long from now they will be running and playing together as they are the only boys in our family, and they are the closest in age.

I anticipate a long, adorable friendship... That is as long as my brute boy doesn't use size as an advantage to pummel his cousin.

Infant Bouncy Chair -- Help to Hazard

I married into a decent sized family who are all still very close. Most importantly, that means hand-me-downs are pretty easy to come by.

Amongst the hand-me-downs I received when Monster was born was a simple wire bouncy chair. My sister in law boasted that it was a godsend and for the last 5 months is certainly has been!

When I became a mother the only way that I could hang on to my sanity and independence was to do my hair and put on my face every single day. I feel good about myself starting my day if I feel like I look presentable. Somedays Monster wouldn't allow me to get to that comfortable point until well into the afternoon, but I made sure I got to it.

That's were the bouncy seat came to great use. It's been an almost permanent fixture on my bathroom counter since Monsters birth. Each day I would plunk him in it and start my personal morning routine while he supervised.

Recently though, Monster has surpassed the "Sitting up Unsupported" milestone and often uses his core muscles to lean forward in the bouncy seat to get a closer look at something on the floor or counter. Therefor my helpful morning tool has now become a deadly (maybe not deadly, but very painful) hazard for Monster.

Just like the infant carrier car seat, my trusty wire bouncy seat will now have to be retired to the storage area with the rest of the things Monster has prematurely outgrown. Not to mention that I will have to find some other way to occupy Monster each morning...
